Entwined Chapter 21 Summary

  • The girls, the King, and Lord Teddie all make Christmas tree ornaments that night, which makes Azalea happy because it'll keep them from dancing that evening.
  • She slips away to go down to meet the Keeper, hoping that she can check on whether her mom's doing okay. Keeper is curious about why the girls have missed dancing yet again, and he tells Azalea to bring them all back tomorrow, no matter what.
  • Azalea has the dream about her mother again, except her mother's lips are sewn shut in it.
  • Since she's woken up early from the dream, Azalea decides to go to the graveyard; she laments out loud about her troubles with Keeper, but can't say much because of the oath.
  • While she's there, Mr. Bradford enters the graveyard, with a ring of holly. He finds Azalea kneeling in the snow and asks her to come back to his shop, which is nearby, since she looks frozen.
  • Mr. Bradford makes tea once they reach his clock shop, and they talk until Azalea sees Fairweller's horse outside. She runs to hide in the coat closet, which Mr. Bradford was already in (fetching another coat to warm her feet), which is awkward.
  • Fairweller is there to pick up a watch, a delicate little piece that's probably intended for a lady. This bewilders Azalea since she doesn't like him one bit and can't imagine anyone liking him, but as she and Mr. Bradford talk, Azalea says that she hopes Fairweller has found someone who loves him for who he is, and not just for his money. She wants to find someone who loves her for who she is, someone like…
  • She stops talking before she tells Mr. Bradford that she'd want someone like him, and that's when she realizes that she loves him.
  • But Mr. Bradford calls her Bramble again, so he still thinks she's her sister, which is super awkward—he asks if he can call on her after mourning ends, and she finally tells him that she's Azalea, not Bramble.
  • Once back at the palace, Azalea walks in on Lord Teddie feeding the girls a fancy breakfast. He tries to talk to Bramble, but she throws her cake at him and leaves the room crying.
  • Azalea finds Bramble sobbing, saying that she hates Lord Teddie and she hates herself; Azalea kinda understands where Bramble is coming from with guy problems.
  • When the King brings in a Christmas tree, Clover's nowhere to be seen, so Azalea goes looking for her in the gardens. She sees Fairweller in a gazebo, with a lady… who turns out to be Clover.
