Entwined Chapter 28 Summary

  • Azalea sprints to the library to warn everyone—but then she sees Mother with everyone. It takes her a second to realize that it's not her mom, it's Azalea—Keeper must've changed shape to resemble her.
  • Keeper-Azalea has got a hold of Mr. Bradford's pistol and is talking about whether she can shoot. The King grabs Keeper's wrist because he/she is acting kinda funny, and Keeper begins to insult the King, saying he's not part of their family.
  • Enraged at this, Azalea comes out of the wraith cloak to attack Keeper. Suddenly there are two Azaleas and no one knows what to do.
  • The King has Azalea fold the silver handkerchief, which only the real Azalea can do, but during the scuffle Keeper-Azalea grabs the pistol, and Azalea sees it just in time to keep him from firing it.
  • Keeper-Azalea runs for the door, and the King runs after, followed by his daughters; they wind up in the tower, and the King and Keeper-Azalea struggle.
  • The King knocks down Keeper-Azalea but can't kill him, because he still looks exactly like Azalea.
  • That's when Keeper-Azalea struggles free and shoots the King in the chest. Keeper then turns ancient, says that he won, and disappears into dust.
  • Azalea and all her sisters rush to the King's side, but he's fading fast. They kneel down beside him and ask him not to leave, calling him "Papa" for the first time in however many years.
  • The snow becomes warm, something magical happens, and the King wakes up. Somehow he is alive.
