Entwined Chapter 29 Summary

  • Azalea wakes up in a nice room: turns out they're staying at Fairweller's manor (and she's slept for two days). She catches up with her sisters, and they all get ready to change into the beautifully colored dresses the King gave them for Christmas.
  • Then Azalea tells them that the King hadn't sounded ready to lift mourning, and they decide to continue mourning as a gift to him. When the King shows up, he tells them that mourning is in fact over—it's what their mother would've wanted.
  • The magic sword is mended and they swear on it in parliament. The castle gets a lot of work, not just to unmagic it, but also long-overdue repairs and stuff.
  • The girls tag along on a trip to the palace, and they see a beautiful new portrait of their mother in the gallery—it's a gift from Lord Teddie, which is why he took away the sole portrait of her to begin with.
  • Bramble is angry, though, since she doesn't want his charity—but Lord Teddie says it was a gift because he remembers her mom, and he likes all of them, and he loves her. Suddenly Bramble leaps into Teddie's arms, knocking him over. An enchanted rug tries to eat them, but it's okay.
  • Lord Teddie takes a ship back to his country, and Bramble talks about him nonstop over the next few days, while Clover looks bummed because she hasn't heard from Fairweller.
  • When Fairweller does show up, the King goes out to meet him with a pistol. Clover intervenes, and after a lot of begging, the King agrees to allow Fairweller to court her when she turns seventeen.
