Character Analysis
Maya is the psychic Sam visits in an attempt to gather more information about his powers. As Sam observes, she's "the real deal" (9.99)—she knows about Brooke being in the bowling bag before they even mention her, and can also see Sam's protective bag without him saying a word about it. This is the single time we see Maya in the story, but she does two pretty important things. For one, she's the first person to tell Sam about the binding of his powers, observing that "It's as if part of you has been locked away" (9.127). Too true, Maya, too true.
For another, she agrees to make some calls on Sam's behalf, one of which ends up being to June, her sister in New Orleans, who winds up sending Ashley to set Sam free. So while Maya's a small link in the chain, she's also a pretty critical one.
