Pamela Chapter 71 Summary

Sunday Morning

  • Well, Pamela ends up giving him both packets. Obviously.
  • He then forces her to stick around while he read her letters and seems really moved by them, particularly her description of the moment she considered suicide.
  • He then asks to kiss and make up, saying he would "defy the World, and the World's censures" in order to make proper amends to her (71.22), i.e. marry her even though no one of his rank is supposed to marry a servant.
  • But she's still worried about the "Sham-marriage" plot and begs to go home.
  • Mr. B is super angry, but then later on, Mrs. Jewkes tells Pamela that she's supposed to leave for her parents' immediately.
