- In the letter, Lady Davers says she has heard rumors that the squire is planning to keep Pamela as a mistress or a wife. She doesn't think either of these is a great idea, and she promises to renounce him if he marries her.
- Pamela critiques Lady Davers's snobbery and obsession with her ancient family line.
