The Tale of Despereaux Chapter 30 Summary

To the Dungeon

  • For the first time ever, Mig has enough food to eat. So she eats and eats and grows pretty plump in the process—although her head remains small.
  • However, Mig turns out to be kind of a lazy servant and a not-so-smart one.
  • She fails at literally every single task she's assigned, and so finally Louise decides that she 'll be sent to the dungeons—not as a prisoner, but as the servant who takes the jailer his meals.
  • Instead of being terrified like other servants were, Mig takes this news quite calmly. She repeats to herself what she has to do: bring the jailer his meal, wait until he eats it, and bring up the tray again. Sounds simple enough, right?
  • She takes the tray and starts down the stairs to the dungeons. The other servants shake their head at her smile, because she clearly isn't even smart enough to be afraid of the dungeons.
