The Tale of Despereaux Chapter 35 Summary

The Knight in Shining Armor

  • Meanwhile, Despereaux sits on a bag of flour out of sight and cries about his lost tail. What will he do without it?
  • But he's also relieved that he got out of the dungeons and that he's still alive. He's narrowly avoided a terrible fate…so far, at least.
  • Exhausted, Despereaux lies down on the flour sack and falls asleep. While he sleeps, he dreams of stained glass windows, music, and fairy tales.
  • He dreams of darkness and light, and of a suit of armor that turns out to be empty—which saddens him, because he takes it to mean that there is no "happily ever after."
