How It All Goes Down
Anna
- After talking to her dad about Kate, Anna goes to visit Jesse in his apartment over the garage.
- She wants to visit Kate in the hospital, so Jesse drives her. They chat in the car, and Kate smokes her first cigarette. Delicious. (Not—"It's like licking a barbecue" (3.7.33), she says.)
- At the hospital, Jesse pretends to be drunk so that his mother will leave Kate's bedside to come get him.
- When Sara leaves the room, Anna sneaks in to be with Kate, alone.
- She crawls into bed with Kate and tells us, "I didn't come to see Kate because it would make me feel better. I came because without her, it's hard to remember who I am" (3.7.86).
