My Sister's Keeper Part 6 / Chapter 4 Summary

How It All Goes Down

Sara, 2001

  • Anna asks for money for hockey equipment she found on eBay, and they end up buying it for her and going to watch her play hockey, which turns out to be a metaphor about as subtle as a hockey puck to the teeth: "Anna saves, every time" (5.4.32).
  • Later, Kate ends up back in the hospital again, bleeding from every orifice.
  • While everyone is watching her in the hospital, Jesse flushes a bomb down the toilet and blow's up the school's septic tank. Talk about being in deep, er, doo-doo.
  • He alludes to this being a whole "cry for attention" thing, but Sara just grounds him.
  • To rub in how unfairly they treat him, he chooses this moment to reveal that he donates blood every three days to keep Kate supplied with platelets.
  • Sara and Brian decide to do a controversial arsenic therapy on Kate, and while it's touch-and-go for a while, she manages to pull through.
