Hahp thinks about his brother Aben pretty frequently while he's at the academy. Thing is, applications to the academy are always done in secret, so Hahp has no idea what his father told Aben about it, if anything: "What had he told Aben? Anything? My brother would come home for Winterfeast. Would he be upset, finding out? He liked me, but he had never understood me. How could he? We were as different as night and day" (18.11). So, maybe they're not, like, the closest brothers ever. It good to know someone liked Hahp at home, though.
