The Returning Chapter 14 Summary

The Women's Time

  • Brr… it's the coldest winter ever and Pin is trying to stay warm. There's a big banner up declaring "Pin is a woman today." Translation: she's just got her period and there's a ritual for the townspeople.
  • She's got cramps and isn't feeling well though, so she cries and says that she doesn't want to be a woman—it's too hard.
  • Some women from the town come by with herbs and make her a special remedy to drink; then she dips herself in hot water and her mom cuts her hair.
  • Pin cries because she doesn't want to get rid of her curly locks, but she's forced to.
  • Some of the women comment that growing up is tough. Gee, ya think?
  • Nariet comes up to Pin and tells her that she's engaged to Caldo Sanderlin.
  • Pin thinks that it's weird being a woman now and having to act all adult.
  • Farrow comes up to Pin and makes fun of her for liking Uplanders since her brother is now one of them. She gets annoyed and hits him right on the nose. Pro tip: Don't mess with Pin right now.
  • Acton comes up and tells Farrow to beat it. Then he's supposed to kiss Pin, but she doesn't want to, so he tells her he'll save her a kiss for when she wants it.
