Lips Touch: Three Times Theme of Fear

With all of the terrifying creatures lurking around in Lips Touch: Three Times, it's no wonder the characters experience some seriously animalistic fear. After all, they're actually being hunted like prey.

Kizzy in "Goblin Fruit" is tracked by goblins that will stop at nothing to steal her soul, while in "Hatchling," Esmé and Mab feel tons of uncertainty and terror while on the run. Fear also factors into "Spicy Little Curses Such As These" when Anamique and James pledge their love to each other. Despite their ardor, there's the scary little thought that the curse might be real and Anamique's profession of love could actually kill James. High stakes romance indeed.

Questions About Fear

  1. Is Kizzy actually scared of Jack Husk at any point? If yes, when and what does this tell you about fear in her story? And if not, why not and how does this complicate fear?
  2. Why does James's fear of the curse bother Anamique so much? What is she afraid of?
  3. What does Estella fear will happen if she finally gives in and dies?
  4. Why is Mab so afraid of Esmé's one blue eye? Is Mihai afraid at all? Why or why not?

Chew on This

Try on an opinion or two, start a debate, or play the devil’s advocate.

Anamique spends most of her life around people who fear the curse and don't see her as a normal human being, so when James kisses her to stop her from speaking, she feels more betrayed than ever. He, too, is afraid of her first and foremost.

Mab has a hard time connecting to other people because her fear of the Druj defines who she is, but Esmé doesn't carry those same fears and experiences. Because of this, she has a shot of living out a normal life.
