Lips Touch: Three Times Theme of Identity

All of the main characters in Lips Touch: Three Times are on the cusp of adulthood, which means that they're all trying to find themselves in some very real ways. Kizzy is trying to distinguish herself from her weird family, Anamique is trying to overcome her dratted curse, and Esmé actually has no idea who she is and why she has all of these weird memories swirling in her head. It's hard enough trying to find your own identity as an adolescent without all of these goblins, curses, and immortal pursuers to deal with. Ugh.

Questions About Identity

  1. How does Mab's upbringing affect her sense of self? How does this compare to Esmé's?
  2. Why doesn't Kizzy see herself as a pretty girl? Be specific, please.
  3. How does Anamique's view of herself change after she meets James? How about after she sings?
  4. Why does Esmé feel like she's looking in a mirror when she sees the Druj Queen's body? What does this mean about her identity quest up to this point?

Chew on This

Try on an opinion or two, start a debate, or play the devil’s advocate.

Mab's sense of self is twisted by her experience growing up with the Druj because she wasn't treated as an individual but as an object to be used for the Queen's amusement.

Kizzy has grown up thinking that she's too weird and intense, but it is precisely these characteristics that make her interesting.
