The Queen's Pet
- Apparently the Druj are immortal but don't reproduce, so they never have little Druj babies. Because of this, they like to keep human children as pets.
- Mab was born in Tajbel (the Druj Queen's kingdom) to a human mother who was one of the Queen's former pets. Mab called the Druj Queen mother and was sometimes kept in a pretty cage by the Queen's bed.
- The Queen also kept these terrible beasts around that wanted to eat Mab, though, and they would sometimes wait outside of her cage and taunt her. That doesn't sound like a very motherly thing to allow.
- As Mab grew bigger, the Queen lost interest in her. She neglected her pet and forgot to feed her so that Mab sometimes had to rely on eating bark or moss.
- When Mab turned ten, the Queen's handmaidens dressed her up and brought her to the Druj Queen. The Queen shoved herself into Mab's body and took it over as Mab felt her soul being crushed down inside of herself.
- This is when Mab realized that she was just something for the Queen to wear, like a piece of fabric. She wasn't anything but something to be tried on and then discarded.
