Fujiko Imada

Character Analysis

She's Hatsue's mother. She disapproves heartily of Hatsue's romance with Ishmael (when she finds out about it) and demands that Hatsue end it immediately. Understandably, given the injustices and racism that she and her family have encountered in America, Fujiko is not super-keen on having her daughter involved with a hakujin, as she calls the white inhabitants of San Piedro.
