The Sign of the Beaver Chapter 24 Summary

  • Matt and the pooch realize that the time of snow flurries is over, and it's about to begin snowing in earnest.
  • Matt knows it's sometime near Christmas, but he's lost track of time a bit—all his days seem to run together.
  • By the next morning Matt can hardly open the cabin door, and he starts to freak out a little since he doesn't have a shovel. Quickly he creates a makeshift one and gets himself out the door.
  • Time to bust out his snowshoes. It takes a minute, but soon Matt is a pro on them. He resets his snares higher in the snow and then snowshoes out to the lake for a sort of joy ride.
  • He's actually happy, and thanks to the snowshoes, his fear of winter dissolves.
  • To celebrate, Matt cooks himself a nice little meal and cuddles in a chair with good ol' Robinson Crusoe.
