Character Analysis
Beck is Lady Davers's maid. She visits the Lincolnshire estate with her mistress, lending a helping hand when Lady Davers attempts to question and detain Pamela. Like Lady Davers, Beck operates under the assumption that Pamela is either Mr. B's mistress or has been duped into thinking she is his wife. However, she tries to discourage Lady Davers from being so harsh with Pamela, reminding her mistress that, if Pamela is duped, a more proper reaction would be pity.
Once she realizes that Pamela is legitimately mistress of the house, Beck is super embarrassed that she acted disrespectfully and apologizes. So, she gets the Shmoop Stamp of Qualified Approval.
