Character Analysis
Bobby is Norma's first boyfriend, a half-Indian boy who she ultimately leaves for Kenneth. She calls him "Bobo" and he's kind of a loser, since "Bobby wasn't going anywhere. He didn't even have a job." (17.4) Even so, Norma loves him more than Kenneth, even though she marries Kenneth instead. Bobby seems to be the embodiment of the hell on Earth that is Chinook. He's got nowhere to get, he can't get out, and he's basically gonna be there til he dies. No wonder Norma took her chances with the religious nut.
