Such a Disappointment
- Despereaux Tilling ends up surviving, but the other mice in the community are baffled by him. They say that he's too small, and that his ears are way too huge.
- He doesn't defend himself against these statements because he knows that they're true. On top of that, Despereaux is sickly and constantly coughing, sneezing, and fainting at loud noises.
- Oddly enough, he's not interested in the things that the other mice are usually obsessed with. He doesn't track down crumbs or think constantly about food.
- Instead Despereaux listens with his big old ears.
