What Furlough Saw
- Princess Pea smiles down at Despereaux and touches the top of his head. Despereaux's totally smitten and thinks that she looks just like the princess in the story.
- She tells Despereaux that he's so sweet and tiny. He looks up at her adoringly, but at that exact moment, his brother Furlough happens to scurry by.
- When he sees Despereaux being out in the open and the princess touching his head, he is completely horrified.
- He runs back home to tell their father, Lester Tilling, about this shocking situation.
