The Great Wide Sea Chapter 10 Summary

  • Ben's dad is driving him crazy. The close quarters on the boat aren't helping anything.
  • The boys have been working hard to keep everything on the boat in order. Each day, after their chores, they do some schoolwork.
  • In the afternoons, the boys explore—snorkeling, swimming, and stuff like that. They explore the island, too. Gerry doesn't swim, of course.
  • Soon enough, Dad decides it's time to move on. The boys aren't too happy about that.
  • One day, when Dylan and Ben are messing around in the water, Gerry goes off to sit by himself with his faithful sidekick, Blankie, pulled over his head.
  • Aw, little Gerry is having a cry. Ben tries to comfort him.
  • Here's Dad. Time to go. He comments that Gerry needs to start spending more time in the water.
  • Update: Ben still hates his father.
