The Great Wide Sea Chapter 31 Summary

  • The boys take the next week or so off. They sleep a lot. Guess a shipwreck can really take it out of you.
  • Eventually, they decide to go back to the boat one last time. The Chrysalis has sunk a lot since they saw her last.
  • The boys feel emotional seeing the boat this way. The carefully board.
  • They gather up their belongings. Ben remembers to grab his photo of his mother.
  • In his father's room, Ben finds his mother's apron.
  • He flashes back to a time when he found his parents crying in the kitchen.
  • The kids get back on the dinghy and literally wave goodbye to the boat. Then the wind starts to pick up. These guys can't catch a break.
  • Ben's becoming increasingly worried about landing. These waves are really rough.
  • He tells his brothers to jump and wade to shore. He'll bring in the dinghy after them.
  • Ben has a tough time landing. He makes it, but the dinghy is in terrible shape. Plus, they lost all their stuff.
