The Great Wide Sea Chapter 38 Summary

  • Problem is, Dylan's not healing. It takes everyone a while to realize it. For a while, it really seemed like he was getting better.
  • The wound is looking okay. It's not swollen or oozing pus or anything like that.
  • Over time, it becomes clear that Dylan is in pain. Dylan confesses that he thinks he has an infection. At first, Ben brushes it off.
  • The next day, he asks Dylan what he can do to help. Nothing, apparently.
  • Ben tries to think up a rescue plan. He'll go look for a doctor. Dylan has no confidence in these ideas.
  • Oh man, now Dylan's trying to pass on his wisdom about traps and distilling water. He really thinks he's going to die.
  • Ben tells Dylan that he's got to leave to find a doctor. Ben knows it's risky. If he doesn't succeed, Dylan and Gerry will die.
  • Ben says he'll leave the final decision up to Gerry. Gerry agrees right away.
  • That night, Ben says his goodbyes. He'll leave in the morning. He's feeling really sad and worried about everything.
