The Great Wide Sea Chapter 37 Summary

  • Everyone's settling into life on the deserted island. The brothers are no longer hungry all the time.
  • One day, though, after the boys separate to hunt and gather, Dylan doesn't return to camp.
  • That night, Ben doesn't sleep. He's really worried. Finally, it's light enough for him to go look for his brother.
  • The island is big, so Ben has a lot of ground to cover. He walks around for a long time before he starts to have a hunch about where Dylan is.
  • Ben heads to the cliffs. He finds Dylan on a ledge. He's badly hurt, as in there is bone sticking out of the skin on his leg.
  • Ben runs back to camp. He needs supplies to get Dylan off that ledge.
  • Back at the cliffs, Ben prepares for the rescue. He ties a rope to a sturdy tree. He doesn't know much about climbing.
  • Ben's with Dylan on the ledge. He feels dizzy even looking at the wound. He straightens out Dylan's leg and crafts a sort of makeshift saddle that will lift Dylan back to safety.
  • Dylan's safe at the top. He faints. Ben carries him back to camp.
  • Ben realizes that he needs to jerk Dylan's bones back into place. Heaven help him.
  • Dylan passes out from the pain. Ben somehow manages to get the bone back in. Now it's time for Dylan to heal.
