The Ear, the Eye, the Arm Chapter 30 Summary

  • We hope you're not in the mood for strawberries and cream, because Trashman ate all the berries from the garden.
  • Mrs. Horsepool-Worthingham is livid. She gives him a piece of her mind and he scrams.
  • Tendai knows Trashman can be annoying, but he's like family now and he wishes Mrs. Horsepool-Worthingham wasn't so mean to him all the time.
  • He begins making the porridge and then goes to find Mrs. Horsepool-Worthingham in the house.
  • She's on the phone with the Mellower, so Tendai listens carefully to the conversation without anybody knowing.
  • Mrs. Horsepool-Worthingham tells her son to hypnotize the General and introduce the idea about offering a reward for the kids. She has to get something out of taking care of these brats.
  • Tendai is shocked: His parents aren't away in Beijing after all. They are at home, worried sick about their children.
  • The Mellower talks back to his mom, telling her he has ethics and doesn't like her calling his friends brats. He loves Tendai, Rita, and Kuda.
  • Still, he doesn't want his mom to go to prison for kidnapping, so he won't rat her out.
  • Tendai is so angry he could scream, but he realizes that might not be the most mature way of handling this situation.
  • He doesn't want the Mellower to get in trouble since the guy's in a tough situation with his mom, so instead he comes up with a plan to humiliate Mrs. Horsepool-Worthingham right there at home.
  • Just then, Trashman comes back and Mrs. Horsepool-Worthingham shuts the gate so he can't get back in.
  • Rita gets mad but Tendai scolds her.
  • He fills her in on his plan (which we know nothing about) and she agrees to it.
  • Mainly, she's just relieved that her folks aren't really living it up without their kids. She didn't know whether to believe Mrs. Horsepool-Worthingham or not.
