If you've ever wanted to visit the future, this book is your chance. It takes place in the year 2194, a glorious time when robots do all the cooking and cleaning. Where can we sign up to go? The high-tech world of the future sure has its perks, but it doesn't impact the plot too much. In fact, Tendai and his siblings are a lot like us, just several years in the future and with better gadgets.
It isn't all about the future in this book, though, and we also spend time in Resthaven, a community designed specifically to enable people to live in the past, going about their lives without newfangled technology and such. This is a place that puts a whole lot of weight on supernatural spiritual beliefs, making it clear that the supernatural in the present day (a.k.a. 2194) is rooted in the past. This makes the super natural an intrinsic part of Zimbabwean culture in this book.
