The Ear, the Eye, the Arm Chapter 38 Summary

  • Arm is unsure of himself, but the mhondoro gives him courage, and a gust of wind sends him flying and lands him straight on the embassy.
  • Meanwhile, the Masks begin their ritual with Tendai. The She Elephant tries to barter with them.
  • She tells them stuff like, "Hey, I'll get you a nice goat to sacrifice instead," and, "Come on, don't kill the kid. He's worth more alive."
  • But they don't give up. In fact, they tell her that Tendai is a perfect sacrifice since he's the General's son and wears a ndoro.
  • Arm shakes himself off and looks inside.
  • There, he sees Tendai tied to a chair, with the other tied up close by.
  • The mhondoro tells him to shoot the ambassador, but he hesitates.
  • Someone wearing the Big-Head mask takes a step toward him and the power of the mhondoro gets weaker and weaker.
