- What's the role of the supernatural? Does everybody believe the same thing about spirits and ndoros? Do the Masks believe anything different than the rest of the characters?
- How are Ear, Eye, and Arm different from other people? What are their superpowers? How does Arm feel about his at the end?
- How is family viewed in Resthaven? What is more important than family? How is it understood in the modern world in the book?
- Are Ear, Eye, and Arm good detectives? Why or why not?
- Is technology always a good thing? Why do the people of Resthaven dismiss it? How are their lives different without modern technology?
- What do the Masks want? Why are they so elusive? What do they want with Tendai?
- The Scouts value loyalty, bravery, courteousness, and reverence for their god. Which of these qualities do you think is most important? Which does Tendai value the most?
- In the epilogue, we're told where each character ends up. Whose journey is most surprising? Do you think everyone gets a fair punishment? Why or why not?
- How might the story be different if it were set in the U.S.A.? Or today (instead of 2194)? How does this impact the characters and plot?
