Revolver Chapter 29 Summary

Sun Day, night

  • Wolff offers Anna a chair and asks her to sit down (and when we say asks, we really mean tells her).
  • He muses how it's just the two of them now, and Sig corrects him that there's a third member of the family.
  • Anna shushes him, telling him not to tell this guy anything. But it's too late—Wolff's already heard and figures out that Einar must have married again.
  • Where is Nadya, anyhow? Sig wishes she were here.
  • Anna confesses that she's left. They are her kids and she bolted as soon as Einar died—Sig can't believe it.
  • Now Wolff tries his questioning game with Anna, but she knows just about as much as Sig. She remembers Wolff and all, but she also knows her dad didn't have any money or gold.
  • Wolff decides that if neither of them will come clean, he'll just force the truth out of them instead. He pushes the revolver into Sig's chest, and then asks the same question: Where is the gold?
  • Wolff tells us how he ended up here after all these years.
  • The night before Einar left Nome, he told Wolff to meet him at the local saloon to close the deal. They met in one of the private rooms so no one saw that much gold being passed around, but after a couple drinks, Wolff got as sick as a dog and fell to the floor. The last thing he remembers is Einar saying he had a boat to catch to Seattle the next morning.
  • Wolff later figured out that Einar rented the room so no one would find the guy until the next morning. Why? He poisoned Wolff with assayer's chemicals.
  • So Wolff hitched a boat ride to Seattle, thinking that's where Einar headed—but when he got there, he figured out Einar never even went to the rainy city, so Wolff had to start his hunt all over again.
  • Wolff kept tracking the family and eventually came here. He figures Einar must have heard about him coming.
  • Suddenly Anna feels proud of her dad's trick and sits a little taller. But did he have any gold? If he did, she certainly doesn't know about it.
  • Anna feels the urge to tell Wolff about Job so he'll stop feeling sorry for himself.
  • It turns out Wolff already know the story though, and still plans on killing one of them to make the other talk. The only question is: Which one should it be?
