Shannon is Virginia's best—and for much of the book, only—friend, who moved to Walla Walla, Washington when her dad decided to write a book about onions. She's invites Virginia to visit her in Seattle, where they get body piercings together and Shannon helps Virginia take Byron off the pedestal she's always kept him on.
