Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging Plot Analysis

Most good stories start with a fundamental list of ingredients: the initial situation, conflict, complication, climax, suspense, denouement, and conclusion. Great writers sometimes shake up the recipe and add some spice.

Exposition

Georgy Girl

In the exposition phase, we meet Georgia Nicolson, a British teen who lives with her family, none of whom seem to understand that she's growing up. She wears a bra already, for Pete's sake, but they still treat her like a kid. She has a little sister named Libby and an insane cat named Angus—yes, the Angus from the title—both of whom are adorable little problems in her life. When she meets Robbie and instantly has a crush on him, despite the little detail about him already having a girlfriend, the stage for our action is officially set.

Rising Action

Other Boys and Hurt Feelings

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Georgia and Robbie aren't an instant match made in heaven. The drama really heats up when Georgia's date to the Stiff Dylan's concert, a twerp named Mark, starts a fight with the band. Robbie comments on Georgia's poor choice of company and she responds with a snarky comment about how Robbie's opinion doesn't matter to her. Things aren't looking promising for these two, though Georgia still totally has the hots for Robbie (despite telling him off).

On the home front, Georgia's parents bring up the idea of moving to New Zealand. And guess what? She's not thrilled by this news. Like most teens, she'd really like to stay put, please and thanks.

Climax

Kiss Kiss, Shame Shame

Georgia and Robbie jump from hating each other to Robbie giving Georgia a big old smooch—it's quite a turning point. It isn't all smooth sailing from here, though, because Robbie opts to lay one on Georgia before breaking up with Lindsay… and then totally blames Georgia for the kiss when Lindsay finds out. He's a babe and jerk all rolled into one tumultuous package. One thing's for sure, though, this kiss is the point of no return for our main girl's story. It's the moment she's been waiting for.

Falling Action

Here Kitty…

Robbie tells Georgia they can't be together because of their age difference, which is a bummer in its own right and a bigger bummer because it takes him a few days to bother making this clear. Plus Angus goes missing, and while he's a total terror, he's Georgia's terror, you know? Fortunately, though, his absence works in Georgia's favor since Robbie decides to help find her cat. And when he does, Georgia finds herself with her kitten and her dream boy right where she wants them.

Resolution

Call Me Cupid

When Robbie shows up with Angus, he and Georgia kiss and decide to date. Yay. Life is finally all good… until Georgia's mom comes home with plane tickets to New Zealand. They'll be moving next week, and just like that, we have ourselves the set-up for the next book in this series.
