Fields of Flashing Light
- A dust storm strikes (there's going to be a lot of them, so get used to it). Billie Jo kind of has a sixth sense when it comes to dust, and knows even before it shows up that this one's gonna be a doozy. And she's right: The storm destroys Daddy's winter wheat crop.
- Daddy runs into the storm in a crazed attempt to save whatever he can. Ma and Billie Jo put rags and rugs around the windows and doors to keep the dust out; from the kitchen, they watch it begin to snow.
- Daddy finally comes in coughing, sneezing, and spitting out mud.
