Out of the Dust Chapter 53 Summary

Art Exhibit

  • The library puts on a benefit art show in the basement of the courthouse, which is a pretty big deal since the Panhandle doesn't exactly have a museum. You can get in either by paying ten cents or donating a book. Billie Jo pays once and they let her in two additional times for free. She is grateful for their kindness because she couldn't bear to donate the only book she has: her mother's favorite poetry collection.
  • Billie Jo is in awe of the paintings—so much so, that when the exhibit is over, she feels angry because she wishes she could always see things like them.
