Wild Boy of the Road
- A boy displaced by the Depression comes to Billie Jo's house looking for food. Ma feeds him and Daddy lets him have a bath, haircut, and new clothes; the boy makes Billie Jo wonder about Livie and her brother who left the family in California to find work.
- As the boy leaves, Ma talks about how worried and sad his mother must be that he had to leave home. Billie Jo thinks about how someday, she's going to leave, too.
