Dust Storm
- And as if the dust actually killing a guy isn't bad enough, here comes another storm. These people can't catch a break, can they?
- To make matters worse, this one hits while Billie Jo is seeing a show at the Palace and she has to walk home in it. She stops at the neighbors' houses and they invite her to stay, but she decides to keep going because of her father—if she doesn't come home, he might go out and look for her and die in the dust. After what happened to Ma, she can't have that weight hanging over her.
- As she feared, she comes home to find that her dad already went out to look for her. He left a note saying to stay put, so she yells out the door for him, but her voice is drowned out by the wind. Terrible.
- Her father comes home early in the morning, bruised and covered in mud. Billie Jo tries to make something to eat, but everything keeps getting covered in dust. Frustrated, they finally just call it quits and go to bed.
