Out of the Dust Chapter 51 Summary

Dance Revue

  • We haven't seen the Wanderdales in awhile, but they clearly miss Billie Jo in their show business world. Vera, Arley's wife, is putting on a dance revue at the Palace Theater—Arley asks Billie Jo if she will come out of retirement and play a song with the Black Mesa Boys.
  • Given everything that's gone down, Billie Jo is understandably not too thrilled, but says yes because she doesn't want to disappoint Arley. Or maybe she's just tired of him asking. It's hard to tell.
  • But maybe her decision to play has nothing to do with Arley at all. Maybe it has more to do with the fact that Mad Dog's involved…
  • At rehearsals, Mad Dog comes and hangs out at the piano while she plays. Billie Jo realizes that Mad Dog is the only person who hasn't changed toward her since the accident—he still treats her the same as he always did. Billie Jo feels like her playing is below her usual standard and appreciates him being nice.
