Things Usually Work Out Okay
- Matthew meets up with Ben after school and asks him if he can take all the kids in; he tells him all about what happened with Nikki in the car, and says that they're not safe where they are.
- When he looks up, Ben is crying and Matthew feels hopeful that his dad does care. But then Ben tells him that it's complicated and that it'd be too expensive and tough to get legal custody.
- He also says that because Emmy isn't his own kid, he'd never be able to get custody… and so she'd have to stay behind with Nikki.
- And then Ben says the most offensive thing of all: He tells Matthew that he is being overdramatic and that Nikki would never hurt them; she loves her kids.
- That's when Matt just walks away. Ben is obviously a lost cause, and he's no savior.
