- Matthew addresses the current day Emmy, who is no doubt wondering why Matthew and Callie didn't tell an authority figure about what Nikki did to them. Emmy doesn't remember a lot of the abuse, which is a good thing.
- He explains that he didn't tell anyone because they did believe that Nikki loved them, and that they were also scared of getting split up in the foster system. The siblings had to look out for each other—that was the number one rule.
