The 5th Wave Chapter 3 Summary

  • Cassie says he couldn't have been older than nineteen. Hmm. Who's "he"?
  • She's out looking for water, which she does once a week. She hikes to a nearby gas station every week and loads up on the bottled stuff in case the streams are contaminated.
  • She tries to travel at dusk because the drones aren't out then. Good to know.
  • Cassie's in the gas station. Everything looks the same as usual, but something's off.
  • She pulls out her huge gun and readies to shoot if necessary.
  • As she walks around, she hears a moan from the back room. Against her better judgment, she decides to investigate.
  • Cassie says the first rule of survival now is not trusting anyone. She sounds a little paranoid, but then again she seems to be one of the few people alive in this world.
  • She learned this "don't trust people" thing the hard way, when her father died. Sounds like it was the work of the Others.
  • Even though it's important not to trust people, Cassie knows that's not a good way to be. She thinks that isolating people is part of the Others' plan.
  • Cassie makes it to the back room. The door's open and she can still hear the moans.
  • She enters the room. This is probably going to go great.
