The Raven Boys Chapter 2 Summary

  • The aforementioned Gansey stands outside his orange Camaro (nicknamed The Pig), which is broken down… again. He's calling his roommate Ronan to come help him fix it.
  • Even though Ronan is annoyed, Gansey instructs him to bring gas, a burger, and their other friend Adam. Talk about being a demanding friend.
  • Gansey spent all night outside this big church listening for… something. He wanted to see if anything magical would happen on St. Mark's Eve, but while he didn't see anything, he did get some activity on his digital voice recorder.
  • Ronan pulls up in a BMW because of course the private school boys own ridiculously expensive things. He's there to save the day, along with Adam, the third member of Gansey's best friend quartet.
  • Ronan Lynch is in a sorry mood; his older brother, Declan, wants them to meet him at Nino's (a local restaurant) for dinner. He's bringing a date. The Lynch brothers don't exactly get along, to put it mildly.
  • Gansey is eager to show his friends what he captured on the digital voice recorder. It's the sound of his voice saying "Gansey;" then he hears a female voice saying, "Is that all?"
  • The eerie thing is that Gansey didn't say a single word all night—he was just sitting out there and recording the silence.
  • Even if he doesn't know what this all means, Gansey is intrigued because he's all about the paranormal. He's been spending his time in Henrietta, Virginia, on a mad hunt for a spiritual energy line, after all.
  • As they talk, they see a car go by. It's Barrington Whelk, their Latin teacher and an Aglionby alumnus. He doesn't even stop to help, though. What a jerk.
  • Adam gets out of Ronan's car in his faded Aglionby sweater—he's the only one who doesn't have a brand new uniform. He goes up to the car and works on it until it works again.
  • Then they all head back to school, because after all, they have classes to get to.
