- Gansey picks Adam up from the hospital. He doesn't look too bad outwardly, but the doctors have said that Adam will probably never hear out of his left ear again. Adam also didn't have any insurance, so Gansey ends up footing the bill.
- Instead of being grateful, Adam just seems upset and dejected. He tells Gansey that he's won, that he always wanted Adam to be indebted to him like this.
- This just angers Gansey, who says he wanted Adam to get out for his own good. Adam gets out of the car in a huff, and Gansey is left thinking about his friendships and what they really mean.
- He waits a little bit and then goes looking for Adam. He finds him walking along the highway and tells him to get into the car. Adam starts to cry, and they drive in silence to go get Adam's things from his parents' house.
- When they pull away from the trailer park, Adam doesn't look back.
