Unforgiven Scene 8 Summary

  • We're looking at a small house by a river. A woman looks up as a man in the background keeps working.
  • The camera shifts, and we see Will crossing a small creek on horseback. He approaches the house.
  • Ned Logan is surprised to see his friend Will. It's clearly been some time since they've seen each other.
  • Ned's wife inspects Will's horse, and notices the rifle he has in his bedroll.
  • Inside, Ned reminds Will that they're not bad men anymore. They're farmers.
  • It was easier to play that game when they were young and dumb.
  • Heck, Ned goes on, it wasn't even easy to do then. He asks about the two cowboys marked for death.
  • Will tells him the same exaggerated tale the Schofield Kid told him: they cut Delilah's eyes out, her ears off, her breasts off, just about everything.
  • Ned ponders, then says, effectively: those cowboys have it coming.
  • "If Claudia was alive you wouldn't be doing this," he tells him.
  • Will puts his cup down, and glares at him.
  • Will takes this as confirmation that Ned won't be joining him, and he asks him to look in on his kids.
  • As Will starts to leave, Ned asks a few pointed questions. He's interested, and he can still shoot.
  • The scene shifts and Will has just fallen down again (trying to get on his horse).
  • Ned is already on his horse. The two men head out. Ned's wife, or girlfriend, looks after them, a blank stare on her face.
