Will Grayson, Will Grayson Chapter 19 Summary

Will Grayson

  • Will and Jane spend the afternoon making that pre-show mix CD before heading over to the auditorium to help with the opening night of Hold Me Closer.
  • Will runs into Gary, who looks weirdly like Will since he is playing Phil Wrayson.
  • In the bathroom, Will hears some really loud vomiting. It's Tiny. His pukefest isn't only due to nerves; the two burritos he just ate get partial credit, too.
  • Tiny starts to panic when he realizes that puking has wrecked his voice.
  • Tiny has to sit silently with Will while the crew runs around looking for hot tea and Pepto-Bismol. Will never knew Tiny could get nervous. But it's not the play he's thinking about, it's will grayson. Is he there?
  • When Will goes to check, he sees his parents, but no will grayson.
  • Luckily, Tiny is feeling better when Will gets back.
  • He brings everyone in for a pre-show huddle. This show is not about them, it's about changing lives. Let the magic begin.
  • Backstage, Will and Jane watch what's happening. Truth be told, Will doesn't really know what to expect since he hasn't read or seen Tiny's updates to the play.
  • The first scene takes place at the Little League field. The on-stage eight-year-old Tiny (played by a freshman) and the on-stage eight-year-old Will Grayson (played by Gary) are going through a scene that happened in real life. One of their teammates accuses Tiny of being gay, but Will comes to his defense saying that calling someone gay isn't an insult. And then they sing.
  • Will remembers all this now. This all happened—well, except for the singing—but he forgot all about it.
  • In the next scene, Tiny comes out to his on-stage parents via song, and they promise to always love him.
  • And the next scene is at a faux Gay Pride Parade where Tiny comes out to Phil Wrayson. Just like in real life, Phil Wrayson isn't surprised.
  • Will realizes that Tiny did make the whole play about love—the love between two best friends. So many feels.
  • At the end of the first act, Will tells Tiny how amazing the play is. And he totally means it. Jane is pretty impressed by their friendship, and Will probably is a little bit, too.
  • After intermission, the show starts again with Tiny swinging on a swing set on stage.
  • He tells the audience that love is a miracle, especially the love between two guys because people think it's impossible. And yet Tiny keeps on falling in love.
  • Just then, Will notices that he has a call. It's will grayson.
