Lockdown Chapter 3 Summary

  • It's 6:00AM and time to rise and shine. The day starts pretty early in prison.
  • Mr. Wilson's doing a roll call, and he has cute names for everyone, like "Mr. Robinson the Terrorist" and "Mr. Billy the Kid."
  • Toon isn't at roll call, so Mr. Wilson goes to look for him—something bad must have gone down.
  • Sure enough, Toon's covered in blood and bruises. He's off to the nurse's station.
  • Reese feels bad, but he assumes Toon's just in the gang now and everything will be okay.
  • The inmates have a quick breakfast then it's time for inspections. Mr. Pugh tells Reese that everyone's on lockdown for the first part of the morning while some equipment is delivered.
  • Reese doesn't mind lockdown; it gives him a little time to think.
  • We get a mini tour of Reese's quarters, which are ninety-three by nine-three. That would be inches, not feet. Cozy.
  • His cell includes an open-air toilet and a window you can sort of see out of when you stand on a blanket. Sounds like a one-star Yelp review for sure.
  • Reese re-reads his letter from his sister. Fourth grade is going pretty well. She's thinking about entering a jump rope contest. Oh, and another person in the neighborhood got shot.
