Lockdown Chapter 32 Summary

  • Toon got a release date. Yay. Reese asks him what he's going to do when he gets out, and Toon says he wants to memorize one of his schoolbooks so he can get good grades.
  • Reese's lights are still going out at 8:30PM, but he doesn't mind now because he's so tired.
  • Reese wakes up in the middle of the night when he hears something going down in the hallway. Wonder what's up?
  • Reese falls asleep again and has a nice dream about Icy.
  • In the morning, Mr. Cintron tells the inmates that Toon had to be transferred to another ward. Reese isn't sure what that means.
  • At breakfast, Reese learns that Toon tried to kill himself and knows it's because he doesn't want to go back home to his parents.
  • Mr. Cintron asks Reese to come to his office after breakfast. He tells Reese he has seventy-two dollars left over from his paycheck, which he can use to make calls and buy things at the commissary.
  • Reese asks about Toon, and Mr. C says he's depressed.
  • Then Reese asks about the two cops. And guess what? Mr. C says they've dropped their investigation. (He could have led with that, don't you think?) Reese is so relieved.
  • Mr. C gives Reese some advice: Once you get into trouble, the cops are going to try to pin stuff on you for the rest of your life.
  • Mr. C says Reese might be able to visit Toon.
