Character Analysis
Cassie's mom died off stage, a victim of the alien plague, and we only get to spend a few chapters with her dad before he bites the dust too.
He was an optimist, hoping for the best until almost the end. Cassie says,
While some people were shooting themselves and hanging themselves and swallowing handfuls of pills and jumping from high places, Dad pushed back against the darkness. (11.4)
She also says,
He was the smartest man I knew. (11.27)
Dude sounds awesome.
Mr. Sullivan made it about four months into the alien apocalypse before he was offed by Colonel Vosch. Was all hope for humanity meant to die with the world's last positive person? Or will Cassie find a way to carry his light?
