- Florian encourages Keller to keep up his subversive column about Old Kasperl with the help of Theo's printing press. Las Bombas thinks things will be safer if he leaves Westmark, and plans to go to Trebizonia.
- Theo and Mickle finally talk about his hasty departure. Theo says that he didn't want to endanger her by letting her take up with him, a criminal, and he ponders his evolving morality. Mickle says this doesn't make him a bad person, but instead just makes him like everybody else. Theo asks her to come to Freyborg with him—and after a while, he finally admits he wants her with him, no matter what. Aw…
