Westmark Chapter 24 Summary

  • Theo can't imagine dying for Cabbarus—neither can Mickle, who's terrified by the idea of plunging down the trapdoor. Theo suggests they go along with Cabbarus; if the king is convinced that Mickle is Princess Augusta, she might be able to convince him to not choose Cabbarus as his successor and to stay on the throne. LB isn't excited—Cabbarus has a long arm and can punish them harshly.
  • Mickle is still freaked out, but they have to get ready. Las Bombas makes all the technical preparations with lights and draperies, and the group heads into the New Juliana audience hall; Queen Caroline, King Augustine, and the court will be there.
  • The lights hit Mickle, who doesn't deliver the scheduled lines and instead can only ask for help—she's about to fall. She sounds really scared… but Queen Caroline recognizes the voice, saying it's her child calling her.
