Westmark Theme of Choices

Everyone's got decisions to make, often ones that aren't super easy. Theo has to choose whether to ditch his new BFF Mickle when he decides he just can't hang out with a scheming guy like Las Bombas anymore, while Torrens has to grapple with risking his life by opposing Cabbarus and doing what he thinks is right for the king. Choices can be things as simple as deciding what you're going to eat for breakfast, or as life-changing as aligning yourself with a rebel group. Our heroes and heroines in Westmark—as well as our villain—make these choices every day.

Questions About Choices

  1. Do you approve of most of the choices that our characters make? Which ones would you change or keep the same?
  2. What do you think of Las Bombas's decision to go through life as he does? Do you think he should have changed his actions after the most controversial performance of the Oracle Priestess?
  3. How do the choices our characters make reflect the values the characters believe they hold?
  4. Do people in Westmark ever really have opportunities to reverse the choices they make and their consequences?

Chew on This

Try on an opinion or two, start a debate, or play the devil’s advocate.

The choice to take someone's life is always a choice, never inevitable, for people like Cabbarus, Florian and his children, and Dr. Torrens.

The bond of true friendship, like that between Theo and Mickle, is stronger than any individual decision a person might make.
